Schema Focused Therapy (SFT) was developed by Jeffrey E. Young, Ph.D. While working with Dr. Aaron Beck at the Center For Cognitive Therapy, Dr. Young noticed there was a group of clients that did not respond as quickly or strongly to traditional cognitive therapy as one would hope. These clients, who tend to have long-standing problems and entrenched, dysfunctional beliefs, what Dr. Young calls schemas, seem to respond better to powerful change techniques to “heal” maladaptive schemas. These techniques include working with painful memories and images that are an integral part of the schema. Evoking such memories can be emotional for the client. However, it appears to be crucial to restructuring the memory and help “heal” the schema.

Health Coaching
Client's truly achieve the next level of healing by resolving digestive distress. Improved energy and focus as well as improved health and wellness are the result of healing the gut. This component of therapy is especially important for maintaining the therapeutic gains made from traditional psychology treatment. Without proper gut health, conditions like anxiety, insomnia and depression will be difficult to completely resolve. Nutritional education, individual nutrition plans and targeted interventions for weight loss are provided.

Structured Relaxation
Relaxation helps maintain a balanced and peaceful life. Client's learn a variety of structured relaxation exercises; such as, mindfulness, relaxation breathing, progressive relaxation, meditation and visualization as well as many others. Practicing with structured relaxation techniques enables greater control over emotions and an improved quality of life will follow.

Solution Focused Therapy
Changing jobs, getting laid off, moving, retiring, getting a divorce, getting married, going back to school/college or experiencing any other type of life change? If so, Solution Focused Therapy will help ease the transition by helping client's discover and implement strengths, resources and skills, innate to them, to deal with a change in life status.

EMDR
Approximately 20 controlled studies have investigated the effects of EMDR which have consistently found EMDR to effectively decrease and/or eliminate symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Additionally, EMDR is used to treat depression, anxiety, panic, phobias, disturbing memories, addictions, pain disorders and grief as well as a variety of other psychological distress. Finally, client's often find they are able to work with their medical provider and get off psychiatric medications through overall symptom reduction which often takes place following the EMDR treatment.
